I have some photos that I worked on, I was asked by Ann’s Words to see if I could attempt to repair the only photo she has of her great grandfather. I replied to her right before I had to enter the building for that delightful meeting yesterday saying, I would take a look at it after the meeting I had. The photo has deep layers missing from the gentleman’s right eye. I can relate, while some old photos can be brought back, yet even with Merlin and Harry Potter casting spells can not put humpty Dumpty back together -it is a reality that must be faced.
To jump the track for the moment, I remembered I received that third blogger award that I need to attend to and two days ago I noticed I had this new message. “You’ve been chosen as one of today’s nine blogs in That’s So Jacob’s Ninth Month Blog Challenge (http://www.thatssojacob.wordpress.com)! I challenge you to find nine blogs you find interesting and give them a comment to brighten their day…well, eight other blogs and mine 🙂 Copy this message in your comment and enjoy your new blog friends!”,
I am still debating on this one.

First, I will Show photos that belong to Pacific Paratrooper first:
This is a comparison of before and after, and I must admit, I could not resist this one for it was of a beautiful young woman from the past.
Now for the photo that belongs to Ann’s Words of her great grandfather. This one a tough one, mind you this is just a preliminary 1st attempt, I will have to employ more intricate techniques on this one later,
So today at 1 PM CST I have this meeting with two state workers to discuss possible classes and reenter the workforce. I hope it involves letting one be creative utilize one’s brain and or to write, but I have a feeling not.
So in the meantime, please enjoy my last post WITHIN THE SHADOW OF DARKNESS if you have not already read it -it just might frighten you.
And for other readers, I do have some retouched photos and I know Melanie really enjoys seeing old photos brought back to life, I hope other do as well.
This comes from Ann’s Words

These all belong to Jackie Dinnis
I think most of you seen this one, and I did a bit more work on it. The file size is at 129 MB as of now. And I will say this one has been the tough one! The image is faded with many lines going through it, so far I think it is shaping up. If you wish to see the first part of this one then read Photos of Time Past.
I have also been restoring a few more today. I will let the photos do the talking. This one had deep blemishes on the house and going through some of the hair lines,
As some of you know, at least the ones that have been following me for the past five months, is that I enjoy restoring old photos and bringing them back to life. I saw two photos that were calling me -maybe its OCD. Let me know what you think! 🙂 Seriously! Good or bad criticism!
I just wanted to show everyone what a little love does!
Paula Sillars site 14 Weeks Worth of Socks has a great site for family history to Street cars in San Francisco. The first two photos belong to her.
The next two belong to Jackie Dinnis at Meeting my family
This one took a little over two hours this morning for a partial fix.
Last night, I had my photos selected-my ducks were in a row. I was about to start to record when I get a call. ” Hey, the wifi is out can you fix it?” I started to ask a question then, ” I tried that three times already, wait a second, I’ll call you back.” So I am waiting for a call back. The call comes in, ” No its out I tried three time unplugging the router. I replied, I can fix it but I have to wait for when Deb gets off work. He replied, ” Explorative, I’ll pick you up be there in a second.”
So, I crawl into his tiny car and where off. I get there and the wifi is working fine I told him. he replied, ” no explorative way!” What the young lad did not know is that his grandfather already got it going by what I had told them before, unplug both the router and the modem, then plug the router back in wait for it come on completely then plug the modem back in. The young lad forgot to unplug the modem. Youth and being impatient.
So here is the video, I do hope you enjoy this second video. Please like or leave feedback for me.
While I am still busy working on the second part of Family dynamics -A candid look into my Mother’s life, I thought I would do a video of how to restore a photo, This will be one of many to come so be sure to check back often.
Is it time consuming? Yes, it is but there is no better way to preserve our family history. Most of us, have some old photos that collected dust, rips and tears and I will be showing you how I fixed several of my photos and some I did for my family. Some people charge anywhere from twenty-five dollars to seventy-five dollars and some charge per hour. Granted, there are some photos that no matter how hard we try to fix it, are lost. We could try a professional then we run the chance of a high bill and the photo not looking what we would have hoped for…..
I do hope you enjoy this first video. The video can bee seen here: Please like or leave feedback for me.
What can I say about photos? Photos are a gateway to our past and is part of genealogy studies.
In 1971, I was about four years old when our parent had my brother and me sit for a photographer. The photo has been around for a long time and received more than its fair share of abuse from the sun and other elements. Years ago, I took this photo to my local Walmart when they had the Kodak system to repair photos. The photo came out beautiful but they would not let me have it. They wanted me to get permission from the studio first prior to handing me the photo. I searched for the company that was printed on the back of the original and the person nor the studio no longer existed. I was very depressed and discouraged. So, one day I started to research on how I could repair the photo myself. I do believe I made good attempts at repairing this one photo and several others. Granted it did take me several tries and pounding my head on the keyboard and before long I started to get the hang of it.
Once I felt that I was getting fairing good at repairing some of my photos, I moved on to others that I found posted from family members and friends that I have on my Facebook page and some that I found on Ancestry, after fixing the photo I contacted the person that had the photo in their tree to let them know I repaired it but I did not get a reply back.. There were some that took me several hours to fix, infact one took me the entire day. I am by no means a professional yet several of my family claim that I have a knack for it. I will let you the viewer be the judge of that. As, I stated the photo to the left of my brother Roy and I is the first one I experimented on and I must admit I did not do a bad job for being an amature at repairing photos for myself.
If I get encouraged enough, I will make some videos on how I restored these photos. So please leave me a comment.
