Pinterest When to Share and Not!

A colleague and friend Janice from mostlyblogging.com recently asked me whom had a Reader asked a few questions pertaining to Copyrights. So, here we go.

http://www.mostlyblogging.com/avoid-plagiarism/

Question 1:
(“Is it a violation to share music videos?”)
I will assume this would pertain to YouTube music videos, it depends, if a person shares a music video to Facebook or Twitter it houses the link to the original source that it was obtained from, as bloggers we like this for a few reasons, generate more traffic, gain more subscribers and so on.
When is not ok to use the music video. Simply put, if a person were to download the video then upload the content to their YouTube channel then this is referred to as stealing.

Question 2:
(“Old photos I find at yard sales/flea markets. I have no idea who the people in the photos are, and the pictures were for sale, so is it okay to post some of these photos?”)
To the best of my knowledge this should be fine to share on Facebook, personal blog, I would probably make some sort of statement about the photos in question like, Found these lovely old photos from the 1900’s while at an Estate Sale. Besides, most of us have seen old photos as well as very old photo albums selling on EBay and other sites. The original owners either through them out, Landlords or Apartment managers through them out which in most cases -considered as abandoned property.

Question 3:
(“Pinterest. I thought it was for finding photos, etc. to put on your own board, but have heard that you can be sued for doing this. How can Pinterest stay in business if everyone posts photos from everywhere onto their boards. Is this wrong? I’m scared to use it any more!”)
This one is a bit tricky especially when it comes to the wording within their Policies. There are some concerns, now, if the item in question is your own work then you still hold the copyright. Fine and dandy right, there is a caveat within their policies. I will provide an excerpt from their Policy page.

b. How Pinterest and other users can use your content
You grant Pinterest and our users a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable, worldwide license to use, store, display, reproduce, save, modify, create derivative works, perform, and distribute your User Content on Pinterest solely for the purposes of operating, developing, providing, and using the Pinterest Products. Nothing in these Terms shall restrict other legal rights Pinterest may have to User Content, for example under other licenses. We reserve the right to remove or modify User Content for any reason, including User Content that we believe violates these Terms or our policies.
More simply put
Copies of content shared with others may remain even after you delete the content from your account.
c. How long we keep your content
Following termination or deactivation of your account, or if you remove any User Content from Pinterest, we may retain your User Content for a commercially reasonable period of time for backup, archival, or audit purposes. Furthermore, Pinterest and its users may retain and continue to use, store, display, reproduce, re-pin, modify, create derivative works, perform, and distribute any of your User Content that other users have stored or shared through Pinterest.
https://policy.pinterest.com/en/terms-of-service

For most of us, the main concern comes from the part that Pinterest and other users could modify and create deviated works from it. So keep this in mind if you pin your own material.
A good rule of thumb to use when pining a pin, especially if the work comes from a Photographer, if you are not sure- then do not.

Keeping Records and Photos Organized

Lately, I have been spending my time working on my family tree and as most of you may know the well dries up from time to time. I recently located a second cousin residing in Spring, Texas whom gave some wonderful treasures that I never knew existed. Talk about excitement. I also found a distant cousin living in Piedras Negras that emailed me some photos that belong to her Mother’s cousin that lives in Monclova, Mexico. The lady informed me I have an open invitation to visit her. Exciting!

Dowd, oconnell surnamesWhen it comes to the research, we find records, hopefully some photos that get placed on hard drives or flash drives perhaps in a specific folder or spread across different directories that just might become hard to find if we forgot which folder we put it in. The stack of printed paper that is scattered across our desks. I started to think that there has to be away to organize the information for faster access that is located on our personal computers.

I spent the last few days working on a program that would do just that. granted it is still in the design phase and I would like your thoughts, your input.

Database, Ancestry records, porn, sports, golfThis is the main screen concept.

On the thumb nail images if you click on the view larger button you would get a lager view of the images that opens up golf, horse, horse ridding, cowboys, sportsin a new window.

So let me know your thought.

This is my great grandfather Alfonso rios Gonzalez with his daughters taken in 1917 possible Farmersville, Texas since they were on the 1920 census record for that area.

Dood-Frank – Here We Go Again.

Reflections of past arrogance, delusions of supreme superiority forged with forked tongues as they slither back and forth.

Remember those glorious years, granny in her toasty home, a Vet home from his/her deployment settling back to civilian life in loving arms and castle. A time when the majority described as gut retching pain seeing their granny foreclosed on, their Veteran relative lose their castle. Perhaps not, we Homo sapiens live short life spans considering other species, with this short life span; we also have short memories and forget certain events that occurred only about a decade ago.

I am talking about the 2008 financial crisis where many lost their steven mnuchin foreclosed on elderly peoplejobs, homes and self-respect while people like Steven Mnuchin whom foreclosed on a 90-year-old woman for a twenty-seven cent error and he made millions by doing this.  There were others who followed the path of Mnuchin moral code, Some were indicted while other went scot-free. There are those on the far right that I believe to some degree, care less who lost their home during this time period as long as it wasn’t them. They may say, ” You should have managed your funds better”, to other sarcastic remarks.

I bring this up for those that do have opportunities to purchase homes and in recent news as of today, Trump has ordered to have the Dodd-Frank reviewed and stated that he will be cutting out many regulation, regulations that were meant to protect us the consumer from greedy pretentious asinine corporate world, like big banks and Wall-Street that caused this in the first place which is a left over from George W. Bush Jr Administration.

No one likes home-work, yet I am giving everyone homework. That home-work consists of a few fact based movies that pertain to the 2008 financial crisis.

The Big Short (2015)

Margin Call (2011)

Too Big To Fail (2011)

Inside Job (2010)

Frontline: The Warning (2009)

The Flaw (2010)

Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (2005), though not based on the 2008 crisis, it provides in-depth interviews of corruption and greed.

Shes Got Talant

Sunday perspectives.

Disagree or agree, united or divided, perhaps this is one thing that we all can agree on. A young lady of sixteen who won the Americas Got Talent, Jackie Evancho who sang the National Anthem at the recent Inauguration did an amazing job.

Programs To Be Cut Under Trump Dynasty

Those who may not have heard the latest pertaining to the Trump Administration, here are some key points to keep in mind as our country moves foreword.

First, allow me to bring some bad news to most of us that still use the postal service to mail letters. As of Sunday, they are increasing the price from 47 cents to 49 cents. http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/forever-stamps-will-cost-more-starting-sunday/ar-AAlZYlB?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp

Sesame Street, Bert and Ernie, Cookie Monster
http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Sesame_Street

How many remember Sesame Street, parents favorite show for their children, not sure how the Millennials or younger generation feel about the Public Broadcasting show, Sesame Street, but for the rest of us, we will have to be prepared to possibly say goodbye to the show.

PBS may also be on the chopping block, “Off with their head”.

it is a Private, nonprofit corporation, founded in 1969. However their members is largely made up of America’s public TV Stations and the public viewer that donates allowing for shows like Downton Abbey, Sherlock and Finding Your Roots. However, on their Webpage they state receiving funding from the government as one of their sources of funding.

Here’s another one that will take the slow walk to the guillotines. As reported by, The Hill, The Slot, and Spin have all reported the same news within the last hour.

Report: Donald Trump Plans to Eliminate National Endowment for the Arts, Privatize Corporation for Public Broadcasting

I wonder if this comes about when “Rocky Balboa ” tuned Trump down for a position?

Inauguration Protest -Why it May Not Work!

In light of recent protests of President-Elect close to forty plus leaders stated they will not attend the Inauguration. The count is now up to fifty possibly due to the Trump Vs Congressman John Lewis tweets.

Facebook, memes, inaguration, protest inaguration, Trump approval ratingsI then began to see on Facebook, several memes of protesting the inauguration by not watching it on the boob tube. According to polls, Trump is at 40% favorable which dramatically dropped since his campaign. But why do I believe that this protest of a few will fail. We have heard that over 200,000 plus woman will march the day after the Inauguration and possibly more counting local area marches. Quite a few people, right? Yes and no.  I will explain.

Fuel prices, inflation, skyrocket
Bing images

How many times in the past few years, weather on the news or Facebook protests pleas to not fuel up on a certain day? Did they work?

Of course they didn’t work. Why? People still went to work, still filled up their vehicles, maybe a few were faithful and did not fill up on that day. Buses still drove kids to school. In order for this to have worked, you have to hurt them where it really counts to get the message across and we keep failing to drive the message home.

Pipeline protest, North Dakota
https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Pipeline+Protesters&view=detailv2&&id=9661F484CDB86F2FA306594DDAE3E8FFD8DDEA3D&selectedIndex=104&ccid=%2f0YVBSFa&simid=608002070021080055&thid=OIP.Mff461505215a542b4d7eef4b33c10580o0&ajaxhist=0

How do we get the message across, by being unified as a true nation like the recent protest of the Pipeline in North Dakota. People from all walks of life and different states came out to join the protest, day and night, not leaving, persevering and moving forward.

Gasoline market, hurt them by their financial gain, their bottom line much like our own wallets. The inauguration, for most of us is broadcasted on the networks which in that realm is TV ratings. Although, some may refrain of tuning in, some will be curious, tempted to take a peek, while others may think recording it might be an option, however some networks are able to gauge viewership that way too. For instance,

What many consumers don’t know about their DVRs is that in addition to retrieving scheduling information, they also share data about what you’re watching and when. You might remember the notorious Janet Jackson “nip slip” during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime performance. After the incident, TiVo released a statement calling it “the most TiVo’ed moment,” as TiVo users paused and replayed that clip more times than any other moment in the history of TiVo up to that point [source: Reuters]. While that in itself is interesting, the underlying point is even more revealing: TiVo and other DVRs collect your viewing information, and DVR companies are even using that data to release their own ratings numbers for recorded programs.”

That is why I think this will fail, we as a nation do not unite and follow through.

Let me know your thoughts.
