Oh chivalry! Where art thou!

I found this real neat post via Danny as I was working on mine, This one talks about Chivalry and the decline of once was a proper act of courtesy to each other.

Does chivalry still exist? According to my collected data, 85% say it is dead.

Should it still exist? 100% say yes

If women and men both say it should still be practiced why isn’t it?

Lets begin with the definition of it:

According to Google, it’s:
the medieval knightly system with its religious, moral, and social code.
“the age of chivalry”
the combination of qualities expected of an ideal knight, namely courage, honour, courtesy, justice, and a readiness to help the weak.
More courteous behaviour, especially that of a man towards women

So you might be thinking, how are these knights relevant to now. Well, a common saying “where’s my knight in shining armour?” is a term usually associated with a man who comes to the rescue, to comfort and is respectful to the woman. Now, developing on that, what is chivalry defined as to the modern man and woman?

  1. This is an interesting article and it made me think. Do women want it both ways? Equality and chivalry? Perhaps we can’t have both? Is it fair of us to expect the man to pay for dinner? What if you make more money? Does he have to open the door for you? Maybe you’re stronger? Why don’t women buy their guys a six pack of beer when they pick him up for the first date? Do good manners dictate that only the man has to rise from his chair when a “lady” walks into the room? I don’t know but it seems to me that simple kindness is more important for both parties, rather than all the onus being on the guy. But then again I grew up in the midst of the battle for women’s rights and the fight to pass the ERA amendment. I might be a little biased in the other direction. I don’t want my man to rescue me, I want him to cheer me on while I rescue myself! That doesn’t make him a douche, it makes him a man who has confidence in his woman’s abilities.
